Aurat March 2020 in Pakistan

Hum Aurtain— a feminist group — coordinated the Aurat March as it has become known since its first iteration in 2018. It has a manifesto in every area of life demanding equal rights for women. Today, 8 March 2020, Aurat March is being organized in various cities across Pakistan to mark International Women’s Day. Women, girls, men, transgender people, and others take part in the marches.

Marchers have assembled at the Lahore Press Club in Lahore. Carrying placards, they were playing the drums, shouting slogans and clapping. As the attendees gathered, they chanted slogans calling for women’s equality. Till Aiwan-e-Iqbal, the march went via Egerton lane. At Islamabad, Aurat March participants gathered outside the National Press Club at 3 pm, where the’ Haya March’–organized by students from Jamia Hafsa–also culminated. Authorities had erected a tent between the two marches to prevent clashes. In Sukkur, the event was attended by delegations from various organizations from Karachi, Hyderabad, Khairpur, Shikarpur, and other regions. Preparations are underway for the Aurat March today. It will take place from Lub Mehran until the Press Club Sukkur. Women’s groups met at the press club, and strict security measures were taken.
