Huawei: The Future King of the smartphones?

Huawei, a Chinese company, has established a well-known name in the smartphone industry globally. The journey of Huawei from 2004 to 2019 has been an excited one, especially for the last 5 years. In 2015, Huawei took a 5.5% share of the market by shipping 104 million smartphones and held the No.3 position globally.

In 2016, Huawei announced its big goal of becoming the No.1 smartphone in the market share by 2021. The latest report from Strategy Analytics shows that Huawei might hit that target.  Huawei finished the year 2018 by taking the market share of 14.4%. Whereas Samsung ended with 20.3% shares, a total of 5.6% points ahead of Huawei.

According to the reports, Huawei will come 2nd this year by selling 251 million units with a market share of 17.7%. Meanwhile, Samsung will finish 1st by selling about 323 million units with a market share of 21.3%. Both have a difference of just about 3.6%. Huawei is getting closed to surpass Samsung.

Samsung’s A & M series did very well this year. This series was supposed to focus on lower-range and mid-range customers especially in India people loved it a lot.

Apple sold 193 million units this year, with a market share of 13.6%, which is less than the previous year’s 14.7% (208 million units) market share. But the company is expecting to get more sales, as they are going to release iPhone SE 2 (cheap one), which will give them benefit as most of their smartphones are expensive.

Huawei would have reached that Goal earlier but the ban of the Chinese company (Since May) in the US because of the Us-China trade war, which causes some disturbance. Google has also taken out it’s OS from Huawei, which was a better thing. Because at this point, Huawei got to use their OS which they were building from years. This did give some setbacks to Huawei, as their sales on the Western side got affected. But this also gives Huawei an advantage. After the ban, most of the Chinese people stop using Apple and Samsung and start using Chinese manufacturer smartphones like Huawei, oppo e.t.c. This made Huawei sales increase in China and from abt 23% in 2018, to 40% market shares and becomes No.1 smartphone in China.

By Huawei’s ban, Samsung and Apple did get some benefits. Their sales also increased a bit as Huawei users in Europe had no other choice but to buy their brands.
