It looked like Khabib Nurmagomedov was all prepared to face his opponent Justin Gaethje for the main event of UFC 254. No doubt Gaethje had come with a proper game plan and was implementing it too. But slowly and gradually it was evident that a proper game plan was just not enough to defeat the beast. Justin Gaethje admitted that he planned to come up with strong kicks to Khabib’s legs. Justin Gaethje was successful in landing those kicks and it also looked that Khabib Nurmagomedov got hurt by those kicks. In the second round, Gaethje dropped another solid kick but Khabib quickly made his signature move and went for a takedown. At the very next moment, Khabib mounted over him took the control. Then Khabib Nurmagomedov made his final move and went for a triangle choke. Then he laid on his back and started to choke Gaethje on which he tapped out. Gaethje went unconscious because the referee failed to see him tapping out.
This was Khabib Nurmagomedov’s 29th win. After the match, Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement. Khabib told everyone that he doesn’t want to come to the Octagon without his father. Khabib’s father had died earlier this year because of coronavirus complications. Khabib Nurmagomedov father was a huge support and motivation for Khabib to bring the best out of him. After winning the match khabib nurmagomedov got too emotional and broke down. The obvious reason was the absence of his late father. Khabib also admitted that he has promised his mother too that he will not continue fighting and that this fight would be his last fight.
