“When I was growing up, I was motivated by a lot of hip-hop artists, especially Eminem, and I think that was the time when my love for dance also kicked in. I’ve been very lucky to chase it through my films with historic dancers like Remo D’sSouza Sir and Prabhudheva Sir. Since then, it’s been unbelievable to see the progress and growing popularity of this entertaining and inspiring art form in the country,” Varun said.
He just loves the way hip-hop is being shown in India in distinct languages.
“Artistic individuals are leveraging hip-hop to spread knowledge, emotions, and opinions and it’s so great to see the ‘Janta’ accept and encourage it. I’m sure it’s only going to get bigger and bigger with each passing year,” he added.
He hopes that his alliance with the dance profession and his movies like ‘Street Dance 3D’, motivate people and show them the power of self-expression through ance.
“The experience in ‘Street Dancer’ itself has been quite a great one, training for almost six hours a day, three months straight. We learned multiple dance forms, including krumping, hip-hop, old school, and b-boying,” said Varun, who has recently been encouraging hip-hop talent via hip-hop dance festival.
